Mark Keating writes historical adventure fiction. His current series, "The Pirate Devlin" is set in the early 18th century and follows the exploits of Patrick Devlin in a serious treatment of pirates at the end of the Golden Age of piracy in the Caribbean. Using historical characters and actual events as a backdrop the story is now up to its third book with a fourth to be published in 2013.He makes no apologies for not including monsters, mermaids or swooning maidens. Less cryptozoology and Voodoo romance may make the stories unpopular but unfortunately he respects his source material too much and respects that his audience might be looking for authentic pirates living in an age not too dissimilar to our own.
