Marlene Tromp, Professor of English and Women's Studies and Director of the Division of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies at Arizona State University's New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, is the author of two scholarly monographs on the long nineteenth-century: The Private Rod, a study of marital violence, sensation fiction, and the law in nineteenth-century England and Altered States, a book on seances and mediumship in Victorian Britain.
