Gaiman's reimaging of Marvel in 1602 does show a quite a bit of knowledge about the real 1602. The use of Daredevil is very cool. But considering the recent issue of Marvel's Darth Vader comic, I'm now back to not picking up any more Marvel comics, even if they are free as this one was.

I'm not the greatest fan of Gaiman's work. That's not shade, I have a huge amount of respect for him, and I can read his writing and appreciate how much talent he naturally has, as well as a keen tongue and glib, poetic but economical prose. I just don't gel with his sensibility about 80% of the tim...

The mind of Gaiman gives an interesting twist on the Marvel Universe.

A temporal anomaly causes many Marvel mutants to be born hundreds of years earlier (so they are actually inhabitants of the Elizabethan era, not time-travellers). Because it was the end of the semester, it took me forever to realize Native American Rohjaz was Steve Rogers. Steeped in the myths. Made me want to read up on Dr. Strange.

An interesting one-shot. It could have been better, but overall it was an interesting issue.

(Hardcover edition collecting all 8 volumes of the original run) Marvel 1602 is a “what if” story: what if the heroes of the Marvelverse emerged 400 years ahead of schedule? The world is experiencing bizarre weather phenomena and Queen Elizabeth is dying; the world is quite possibly ending, but fo...

What if the mutants, heroes, villains, and gods we know from the Marvel Universe had popped up four hundred years earlier? The answer comes from the delightfully demented mind of Neil Gaiman in Marvel 1602. Read my full review at Summer Reading Project.

I had tried reading this in the book store one time and did not have good feel for it. I recently went to Wizard World Philly and saw it and decided to try it again. I thought maybe I would have enjoyed more at home and I was right. Now I am not a big comic book reader. Unless it is written by Joss...

Sudden strange disturbances in weather have provoked panic all over Europe. With Queen Elizabeth on her deathbed, political maneuvering has begun in an effort to slide the “witchbreed” (mutants) hating James VI of Scotland into a ruling position. Before her passing, the Queen instructs Sir Nicolas...
