Slave reparations? The suggestion/proposal for lump sum distribution of money to bring individuals into the middle class is particularly attention-grabbing when the middle class is vanishing (has vanished?) in the 21st century. Makes one think...even more than usual :-)I love the archaeology in th...

A fabulous mystery with a great sense of place and a nice use of history and archaeology. Also a story about identity and being comfortable with who you are.

I lived in New Orleans when Hurricane Betsy hit in the 60s. I loved the discussions of the city, but the Voodoo parts annoyed me and I don't think that the mystery was strong.

Having lived in these states and known some of these (types) of people, parts of these books really resonate. And having worked at the University of "Tuscaloosa." :-) NOT an endorsement. But there are good'uns too.

3.5 These books have made me go back to the Coursera archeology course I started in the summer. Each contributes to enjoyment of the other.
