Cake decorator/ aspiring actress Piper Donavan is back in That Old Black Magic. This time around, she has traveled to New Orleans to work with a world famous baker and bake a cake for a wedding. Of course, someone is murdered and Piper can't help but stumble into the mystery. I did like this myst...
Cozy mystery, and fine for what it is. Overly simplistic at times and occasionally too cutesy. An easy read, and relative short. This isn't my genre so I can't comment more than that, but fans of cozy mysteries may enjoy it.
There are a ridiculous number of dead bodies piling up in this book, but that is nothing compared to all of the characters who were given up for adoption as infants. It makes one’s heap spin keeping track of all the characters’ ever shifting relationships with one another. Murders aside, everything ...
Suicide, murder, scandals and blackmail make for an intriguing whodunit. I had my suspicions as to who the suspect might have been, but I was thrown a curve ball. I just found it a little 'boring' being that the setting centered around life in a newsroom and the lives of its characters -- but that'...
It was the 'taking care of loose ends' that accounted for the first murder, that of a television broadcast station employee. As the story unfolds, every one is potentially a suspect, what with secrets and hidden agendas. Short chapters keep the pace brisk in this murder-mystery, but it is short on s...
I should have known when the first book, To Have and To Kill, in this series was just an OK read for me. I was hoping for better with The Look of Love, but sadly it was also just OK for me. As with the first book, there were just too many suspects thrown into the pot. Even with the amount of peo...
Originally posted at Nose in a BookI picked this book up for the cover. If I had shame I wouldn’t tell you that. Good for all of you I have no shame. I was in a book slump. Sad but true. You’d think with 300+ books in my waiting to be read queue, I wouldn’t have that problem. Sadly, it happened. So w...
Piper Donovan isn't the average wedding cake baker. In fact she's only made one wedding cake before, but what a cake it was. On the basis of that one cake, she has been asked to come to Los Angeles and make a cake for Jillian Abernathy, director of Elysium. A trip to LA, a wedding cake, some acid in...
I was a little disappointed in the book. I felt like the storyline was all over the place. There were too many possible suspects. I kept waiting for Piper and her FBI friend to get involved in the investigation like the synopsis said. Their role in it is perpheral at best and Piper actually stumb...
