MARY RAE is the author of St. John of the Cross: Selected poems, a translation of the work of 16th century Spanish Mystic, San Juan de la Cruz. Mary first became interested in St. John's poetry while a student of Spanish language and literature at Boston University, and was struck by the lush beauty of his writing. She soon became interested in translating his work, and a first edition was published in 1991 by Longwood Academic. Ms. Rae's interests drew her also to writing, and she is a widely published poet, as well as a former editor of Romantics Quarterly. She is also an accomplished artist, and designed this new edition, complete with her own illustrations. In addition to her writing and art pursuits, Mary Rae has also become known as a composer, and her St. John of the Cross video, which features her reading and art work, is set with music she composed.Mary Rae is currently working on a new CD that will include readings and musical settings of all the poems in her translation.
