Originally reviewed at garethlewry.wordpress.comThis is the first novel in the mass effect universe, set before the first game in the series. the story takes place just after the rapid exploration of the galaxy, and briefly covers how humans managed this feet in such a short period of time. It's an intro to the game's plot... Not much more. However, the book's plot is just too simplistic, almost too single-threaded, the characters build-up is too cliche... For those who haven't played the game, this might be a good start into the ME franchise. For those who played, I'm sorry, but the g...
This was a decent enough read and fills in some of the background to the first Mass Effect game.

It brings new dimensions and background information to the world you're basically thrown into in the first game, and it does well in fleshing out the backstory behind Captain Anderson and Saren. I don't think this book ...
The beginning was a little rough. Karpyshyn felt it necessary to reiterate the basic history of the universe, which I'm not sure was really needed since I doubt anyone but people who have already played the game will have much interest in reading the book. It made me a little concerned about wheth...
