Matthew Burgess is a doctoral lecturer at Brooklyn College and a poet-in-residence in NYC schools through Teachers & Writers Collaborative. He received a BA in English at the University of Virginia, an MFA in Poetry from Brooklyn College, and a PhD in English from the CUNY Graduate Center. Burgess was awarded a grant from The Fund for Poetry, and his debut collection of poems, Slippers for Elsewhere, was published by UpSet Press. His first children's book, Enormous Smallness: A Story of E. E. Cummings, was published by Enchanted Lion Books last April, and he is the editor of Dream Closet: Meditations on Childhood Space, newly released by Secretary Press.
