Matthew Collins is the pen name for a Christian aid worker, originally from Texas, who spent six years living with his brave wife and delightful two children in Afghanistan. (This first book details their first three years leading a team of aid workers; the second book currently resides in his head.) He isn’t really that shy, but needs to protect former colleagues and Afghan friends from any red bearded, eye shadowed fanatics who might have some extra suicide vests and an interest in adding a few names to their list of targets.Having a master’s degree in intercultural studies and extensive experience in community health and international development work, Matthew has traveled to more than 70 countries, but fell in love with the Afghan people. He writes: “Afghanistan has revealed much to me about my own personal weaknesses, the importance of not taking myself too seriously, the necessity of holding tight to my faith in Christ, and the joy of giving to others.”Matthew’s ability to not take himself – or anyone else for that matter – too seriously helps him paint a descriptive picture of the room… whether it is full of turbaned Pashtun villagers, his warlord buddy “Boss Lord”, or his family in their mud-walled home, affectionately known as “The Museum”. Matthew learned much about faith during his years in Afghanistan and hopes to inspire readers to overcome their own fears, find their calling, and make a difference in this world.
