The book's blurbs compare it to Bridget Jones' Diary, which was published the same year, and Girl's Guide is supposedly one of the progenitors of chicklit, but I don't see the resemblance to Bridget Jones, at all, other than it's from the point of view of a contemporary urban female dealing with lov...

I first encountered "The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing" via Selective Shorts on NPR, and loved it so much I had to get the book. It's the best thing in the collection, and still a favorite.

After I read Melissa Bank’s first book , The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing, a few years ago, I added Ms. Bank to my list of authors to watch for. Her second book, The Wonder Spot, lives up to her first and is a satisfying read. I rarely read straight, plain ‘ol fiction, but writers like Meli...

I'm between 4 & 5 stars, and putting this on my favorites shelf. I really really really liked it. As a young girl, as a young adult, as an adult...

This is one of two or three books that really kicked off Chick Lit in the 90s. The writing is beautiful and fun. If you haven't read it, do!

I loved this book. Probably more than I thought I would. The writing is like nothing I've encountered before and I love how fresh it is. I kind of felt like I was reading a movie, if that makes sense. Highly recommend this one as it's not the typical novel. Really good read.http://www.yourentertainm...

The blurb on the back of the book was terrible. This book is not dazzling or wickedly insightful, and it does not "capture in perfect pitch what it's like to be a young woman coming of age in America today" which probably isn't even possible anyway. But, if we take away all these grand ambitions, it...

This is another book I found for $.89 at the Goodwill. I didn't have any particular burning desire to read it. Actually, I didn't even know what it was about. However, I flipped it open and saw an Elizabeth Bishop poem on the first page, so I decided I'd splurge the dollar. The first story was great....
