Eve's first foster mother, the woman who made six months of her life spent under her roof a living hell, is in New York, claiming to want to reconnect with her charge after all these years. Eve is shaken, and doesn't realize what Roarke does, that Trudy Lombard is in New York for one purpose only, t...

It's Christmas time and Eve's foster mother walks back into her life with the intent to blackmail her and/or Roarke. Instead she is murdered and now Eve must stand for her. Eve lets it be known that she knew the victim so there will be no conflict of interest or questions. She then has to go bac...

Happy sigh. This is one of my favorite re-reads. I tend to read it around the Christmas season. But seriously. I needed a happy (as it can be) In Death book. It gets to be a bit of a grind to just read about rape and murder in every other book. Memory in Death (In Death #22) is a really good Eve D...

When I need a little change from my regular reading material I grab some JD Robb. It just stays wonderful!
A Scottish-Canadian Blethering On About Books
My first excursion into Nora Roberts' (J.D. Robb's) "In Death" series, and while it wasn't enough to make me a wild fan or rush out to find the 21(!) previous volumes, I enjoyed it well enough. The world-building for the year 2059 setting was fun - basically just odd details, or often just oddly-nam...

Took a while to get into the plot. Then it spun around in place. Justified, but not very entertaining. What I liked was, like always, Eve's progress as a character. I really noticed the change in the tides last volume, but this one made it even more plain: her dreams. Casting the mind back, it's b...

This story was a little boring for me but I finished extremely fast. The bad guy for me was obvious and Eve had a gut feeling about it since the beginning, but I loved the christmas setting and to see her better in exchanging gifts. Roarke as always went overboard, but Eve learned to pick the right ...

I don't think I'm going to have a lot to say about this book: I finished it late last night and got lazy on the reviewing it. Now I wish I'd either waited and finished it this morning or wrote this review last night. This book starts with a blackmail attempt. The woman, Trudy, had fostered Eve a...

Quotes:“Personalized game, and what you do is start out at the bottom. Pretty much wits only. Then you can earn money, arms, land. Build stuff, fight wars. You can pull in other people—we're all in there. And take on famous foes and stuff. You can cheat, steal, barter, and bloody. But there are a lo...

Though I had pretty much figured out whodunit early on in the book, it was another enjoyable visit with Eve, Roarke, and all the rest. I like how we get little bits more of Eve's or Roarke's history in each new novel and how they tie back to previous novels in little ways.
