It got me at "mermaid" (mention of other mythological creatures will do the trick as well). I watched the movie first, and then intrigued by it -- searched for the title and found that it was based upon a book. I must say that I am very pleased that the book and movie are almost completely identical...

I didn't enjoy this book much, but it forced me, when I thought about the characters, to examine my own feelings. This is the story of a woman who goes middle-aged crazy and runs off on her husband, who is not perfect but has been a steady, reliable man who loves her completely. She takes advantage ...

Maybe it was just the wrong time to have read this book, but I hated the main character, found the "instant-love" ridiculous and decided that though the writing wasn't too bad the story is too contrived to actually be any good.

I'll start this review by saying I usually steer clear of books with adultery. Makes me too uncomfortable. A big disappointment after the Secret Life of Bees. Didn't like the topic, didn't like the story, didn't like the writing.

This book was one of the worst books I have ever read. Too bad I can not give it 0 stars.

After reading The Secret Life of Bees, I anticipated reading this book and even paid full price for it. I was disappointed.

It felt like this book was going to get really interesting, but it just fell short. It's a good think-y, woman-centered, seeking-inner-strength/peace, finding yourself type of book, but the big revelation just wasn't that big of a thing to me. My own desensitization, I suppose.
