This book is a collection of anecdotes which make fascinating reading covering centuries of the ancient, polyglot society and culture of Mexico. It brings to light numerous mysteries and fascinating and curious events. This collection is not a historical document, but rather personal reflections and interesting happenings from retired archaeologist Robert E. Winter. Articles on various themes have been published in Mexican newspapers, magazines and books in Spanish over many years. They belong to the Mexican people. However, access to such information has been limited to those who read Spanish. Selected materials have been chosen from the pre-history and historic period to prepare the anecdotes presented herein, giving the reader insight into this marvelous, exotic, and, in many ways, incredible culture. The materials have been arranged by epochs in order to show how many things have changed. And yet, at the same time, how there remain strong resemblances between the old and the new Mexico down through its prehistory and history. Old traditions go on, while taking on over time a new veneer. Showing through this more complex “fabric” of today, are beliefs and ways of life that hark back to Mexico in its early stages as a people and a culture.
