El Camino: The Road presents real-life cases of plant situations in a Situation-Action-Results (SAR) method. The manual encourages self-assessment, introspection of a plant manager's own organization, and exploration of potential problem areas as it invites the reader to predict the possible consequences of the actions, and even the results, of the cases presented. As a result, plant and maquila managers can more insightfully assess and address areas of risk, to avoid crises or disasters. As well, Cochrane discusses conflict management, forward planning, management style, and relevant language versus culture issues that plant and maquila managers encounter out there, quite often "on an island" by themselves."Every celebrity in sports, entertainment, business, etc., seems to have a special trainer/mentor/coach that can help provide guidance, advice, and collaboration....it seemed to me there should also be such a coach for plant managers, not just celebrities," Cochrane says of his observation that eventually led to his manual.Cochrane understands the benefit of having a coach working with a plant manager in the workplace. Taking a consultative role in plant management as "Maquila Mentor," Cochrane passes on his experience and knowledge through El Camino: The Road.Michael Cochrane was born and raised in the U.S. Midwest (Ohio) where he earned his industrial engineering degree in 1983. He eventually came to the El Paso, Texas-Juarez, Mexico, border in 1990 with his first employer, General Motors. Cochrane has spent almost twenty years of his twenty-six-year career in plant management, acquiring a diverse array of manufacturing experience. He has entered into the consulting field to provide the role of coach and mentor to plant managers, especially in the maquiladora sector along the U.S.-Mexican border.
