Michael S. Knapp, a Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Director of the Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy in the University of Washington College of Education, focuses his teaching and research on educational leadership and policymaking, school and school system reform, the professional learning of teachers and administrators, and methods of inquiry and policy analysis. In recent years, Dr. Knapp's work has probed the meaning and forms of "learning-focused leadership" in schools, districts, and state systems of education. While considering various settings and applications, his work pays special attention to the education of disenfranchised populations, mathematics and science education, and the professional development of educators. Dr. Knapp has written extensively about his research, including nine books, among them, School Districts and Instructional Renewal (2002), Self-Reflective Renewal in Schools (2003), Connecting Leadership with Learning: A Framework for Reflection, Planning, and Action (2006), and Learning-Focused Leadership in Action: Improving Instruction in Schools and Districts (2014).
