Michael Shapiro's collection of interviews with the world's top travel writers, A Sense of Place, takes readers to the homes of the legendary authors where they share their secrets of success in travel, writing and life. His article on Jan Morris's Wales was a cover story for National Geographic Traveler magazine and won the prestigious Bedford Pace award. Shapiro also writes for Islands, American Way, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle. He wrote the text for photographer Kraig Lieb's pictorial book Guatemala: A Journey Through the Land of Maya, a perennial bestseller across several Amazon categories.Shapiro volunteers for ETC, taking disabled people on whitewater rafting trips and sea kayak adventures.
