Admit it. When you hear the title Appalachian Undead, you immediately start thinking of a zombie Deliverance, don't you? As S.G. Browne writes in his introduction, there is a definite "stereotype of the region as poor and desolate and culturally backward" that fiction has done as much to perpetuate ...

Um...that cover looked familiar to me, and sure enough:I'm not saying it's plagiarized, but the Evil Dead poster is a very familiar image for us horror fans. Maybe it was an homage...?

Harmony, Indiana is to Michael West what Castle Rock, Maine is to Stephen King. It's a beautiful little all-American town, populated by good, old-fashioned, ordinary folk. It's a friendly town, where the citizens aren't embarrassed to come to one another's aid. It's also a place with deep, dark, dir...

A fun read, especially if you are a fan of horror movies. The plot is completely derivative and mixes numerous story threads and scenes (I think deliberately) from famous books and movies. I found it fun to "name the movie or book" as each scene transpired. There really isn't anything original h...

Poseidon’s Children represents a bit of a change of pace for Michael, being the first volume of his urban fantasy series, The Legacy of the Gods. Lest you think he's moved entirely away from the realm of horror, however, just check out that cover with its homage to the likes of Evil Dead and Jaws. T...

Poseidon's Children is the first book in the The Legacy of the Gods series by Michael West. How would you classify the 1998 movie The Faculty? I would classify it as horror, yet I've seen it on urban fantasy lists. I find the same blurring of lines with Michael West's Poseidon's Children. It is class...

A refreshing read. A brand new breed of paranormal creatures. It gets a little confusing with all the new characters that are introduced, but they are an integral part of the ending. Great descriptions and imagery. A nice easy read!
