Michelle M. Martin is a Michigander by birth and a Kansan by choice. Earning her B.A. and M.A. degrees in history from Western Michigan University, Martin arrived in Kansas in 1997. A history professor, living history interpreter, author and photographer, Martin founded her own historical consulting company--Discovering History--and serves as a historical consultant for the television, film and print industries. Her work has been aired on the History Channel, PBS and the National Geographic Channel. She is a living history interpreter and has volunteered her time at Fort Scott National Historic Site, Fort Larned National Historic Site, Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, Mine Creek Battlefield State Historic Site (Kansas) to name just a few. Her photographs have been featured in magazines and newspapers in the Central Plains. Martin serves as the historian and director of the Little House on the Prairie Museum located south of Independence, Kansas. The outdoor museum is the original Kansas homesite of the Charles Ingalls family from 1869-1871. Ingalls second daughter, Laura, would later go on to earn worldwide acclaim as a children's authoress of the famous Little House series. Martin's passion is preserving the rich tapestry of the American historical narrative and sharing it with the public. When not researching, writing and helping preserve history Martin enjoys storm chasing, photography, traveling to historic sites, hiking and spending time with her cat Josie.
