I struggled through this book. It just wouldn't keep my attention. I found myself skimming all the filler and background information, to read only those passages that had to do with the birth/death and case. I've read some other reviews; one person compared it to To Kill A Mockingbird. I can see...

Midwives - Chris Bohjalian The blurb on the cover warned me that I would stay up late at night until the last page was turned and that was certainly true. The courtroom drama and powerful storytelling had me in its grasp until the very end. I loved it.

This was a really good book. I wondered why it was written in the view of Connie but that was explained at the end. I like that each chapter started with an entry from Sibyl's journal so we could get to know her a bit also and see how she viewed the events.

This book was just a very disturbing story for me and one I will be thinking about for a while, just hope I don't have dreams about it.

Hard cases make bad law, but they make great reading. Bohjalian is mining in Picoult's fertile gold fields here, with a story about well-intentioned people and something going horribly wrong, resulting in a prosecution. Good reading for anyone who likes to ask "what would I do" of a novel's situatio...
