Cute story about the troubles of finding the right cat for you
I have to admit I was not enthralled by this book. The pictures were charming and the story was okay. Cannot get past the aspect of cats eating cats. Not a favorite.
This little book completely tickles me. I love the look and feel of the book - from the hand written higgledy-piggledy text to the quaint little black and white illustrations. This combined with the familiar folktale set up - lonely old couple in need of something to love and care for - leads you ...
Creepy children's story about an old couple who long for a cat. When the old man finds the valley of cats he cannot choose the prettiest so he brings all million of them home. Where they ultimately eat each other. And the old idiots live happily ever after! WTF?

Well, it's got cats, which always earn you bonus points with me. And while often the simple style of older artwork doesn't appeal to me, this one does. Also, I love the refrain and the hand-lettered font.
I had forgotten this one! My brother and I must have read this a million (ha-ha) times.
