(6 audio cassettes) A full cast narration makes this audiobook a truly unique experience. Gregory Maguire breathes new life into time honored fables. In Mirror, Mirror, he sets the story of Snow White in the tumultuous era of Italy's quattrocentro, at the height of the Renaissance. Bianca de Nevada lives with her father, Vicente, at peaceful Montefiore, high in the Tuscan Hills. In 1702, when Bianca is seven, Lucrezia Borgia and her brother, Cesare, come to visit. Dangerous, powerful, and corrupt, Lucrezia and Cesare soon send Vicente far away on an impossible quest. Raven haired Biana is left under the spell of the monstrously beautiful Lucrezia. Maguire clothes Bianca's adventures in magical language and vivid imagery. After listening to this exquisite, imaginative work, you will never think of the dwarves as jolly cartoon characters again.

What did having Bianca practically explode with menstrual blood onto the floor and the dwarves add to the ...

But one day a noble entourage makes its way up the winding slopes to the farm -- and the world comes to Monte...

I make no secret of my loathing for the Disney-fied version of Snow White. She's sweet, like a heaping mouthful of sugar. Cute little forest animals love her. As do dwarves. (Well, of course they do. She cleans their house and cooks their meals. I'd love my maid, if I had one.) She has absolutely no...
