Saccharine fluffy story dating back to 1938 and showing its age - a couple of racist comments and the insistence that woman's main goal in life is to marry... The dated comments weren't actually what hindered my enjoyment of the book. It was the insipid story more than anything.

Miss Pettigrew has little hope of work but is surprised to find her employment agency have a vacancy for a governess. With some trepidation she sets off to the address. There she meets Miss Lafosse and just as she is pulled wildly into the apartment she is pulled wildly and wonderfully into the live...

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is the perfect book when you are feeling down and you just need something light, fun and charming to read. Even though this book hasnĀ“t the most intricate plot, it kept me entertained for at least a few hours. I have to admit, I could have done without the few racist c...

Miss Guinevere Pettigrew is a desperate, middle-aged governess, pretty sure that she's unlikely to find many more jobs, who by accident is sent to to the wrong address by the employment agency. Instead of a mother looking for a new child minder, she meets the glamorous and vivacious singer/actress M...

A very sweet, charming little book. Miss Pettigrew is the poor, down-on-her-luck daughter of a curate, whose last hope is to become a governess for the beautiful and glamorous Delysia LaFosse. Once Miss Pettigrew arrives at Delysia's apartment, she is swept up into immediate drama by Delysia who is ...

Charming and humorous story but I did think the film adaptation took it to a whole other level. Surprising that such topics as cocaine and a 40 something yr old virgin governess who has never been kissed would end up in a 1930s novel!

When her employment agency sends her to the wrong address, her life takes an unexpected turn. The alluring nightclub singer, Delysia LaFosse, becomes her new employ...

Light, fun, feel-good type of book about how a meek spinster changes her life through an accidental encounter with an actress. Definitely enjoyable, it reminds me of a romantic comedy movie. But, not very deep or realistic and I am surprised that it made it on the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die...

0/5; 1 star; DNFI had high hopes for this book. Even though it was written many, many years ago, it had a lot of good ratings from readers I follow. I could appreciate the female protagonist's attempts to squelch her innate negative reaction to things going on around her but it started to aggravat...

Two stars is perhaps deceptive because I did enjoy this fluffy Cinderella story. But literature it was not, just a buoyant plot with a deserving down-on-her-luck heroine who lands in the right hands. I put this on my list partly because it appears in 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, but I mu...
