Good, but could use some editing. As Renae pointed out, the vocabulary is anachronistic and once you notice that, it's hard to not to see it. Still, I enjoyed it, and plan to read the sequels.
This is exactly the kind of book that I love, and sadly, don't see all that much of anymore. It's rich in historical detail (both factual and tastefully embellished) and full of enough scandal and intrigue to keep you reading. I read it through in one night. I could not put it down.
