"Mnich - Romans grozy". Już sam tytuł wprowadza nas w atmosferę tej powieści. Znajdujemy w niej wszystkie elementy charakterystyczne dla tego gatunku. Ponure stare zamki, grobowce, podziemne korytarze i labirynty tworzą scenerię, w której rozgrywa się pełna napięcia akcja. Siły nadprzyrodzone konkurują w demonizmie i okrucieństwie z żywymi ludźmi. Wartko tocząca się fabuła w swej warstwie realistycznej żywo przypomina powieści typu "płaszcza i szpady", a w szczególności twórczość Aleksandra Dumasa - brawurowe pogonie, pojedynki, zbójcy, "czerwona oberża". W to wszystko wpisane są dzieje "występnej" miłości młodych bohaterów, w tym tytułowego mnicha, prowadzące do zbrodni.

I loved the language of this one. It had a deliciously creepy old school vibe to it. Probably on the account that is was originally penned in 1796. Truly a classic and holds up remarkably well.
