Over a century and a half after its publication, Moby-Dick still stands as an indisputable literary classic. It is the story of an eerily compelling madman pursuing an unholy war against a creature as vast and dangerous and unknowable as the sea itself. But more than just a novel of adventure, more than an encyclopedia of whaling lore and legend, Moby-Dick is a haunting, mesmerizing, and important social commentary populated with several of the most unforgettable and enduring characters in literature. Written with wonderfully redemptive humor, Moby-Dick is a profound and timeless inquiry into character, faith, and the nature of perception. @greatwhitetale Call me Ishmael. You could call me something else if you want, but since that’s my name, it would make sense to call me Ishmael. Captain obsessed with finding a whale called Moby Dick. I listened to this on audio, read by Anthony Heald. I've read the book before, but I got so much more out of hearing it with this great dramatic reading.

Moby Dick was a great book. There was less about the white whale than I would have imagined. It's a fascinating read.

I'm glad I'm finished, and I'm doubly glad that I cheated and listened to the abridged version! Kudos to my husband for reading the entire book in paper format!

1.0 Moby Dick or The Whale DNF
Couldn't finish it. I tried, for close to 6 months. But while the plot could have been interesting, it kept getting ignored and instead we were treated to chapters upon chapters of National Geographic'esque thoughts on whales. I don't care about whales or what they look like, or how to skin them, ...
