I was expecting great literature, but the main message of this book seems to be don't ever go to Trinidad.
I thought this was going to be more like "Mr and Mrs Bridge," but in a different setting. I could see, though, that it was going to be a darker story of race relations and embittered old age than I was in the mood for. Maybe another time.
This book is defintiely going to be "different", but I know this author can do magical things. Maybe I should just be happy with The White Woman on the Green Bicycle, and leave it at that!Kirkus says it is a bit slow....
