Raised in the Midwest by a choreographer and a nuclear physicist, Monte turned his back on both pursuits early and fled for Hollywood, where he launched -- with varying degrees of success -- careers as a waiter, truck driver, legal secretary, songwriter, screenwriter, playwright, public health consultant, and jazz pianist. He and his wife Claire now live in Los Angeles with two astonishingly inert cats. His hobbies include skiing, cooking, tennis racquet-stringing, and existential angst.
