Her novels featured upper class society particularly in the San Francisco area. This brief novel relates how lovely Margaret Paget, a teacher and one of eight children, accepts a position out of town as secretary to a rich family. She falls in love with a young professor, and comes to realize how much her mother means to her.

2.5I wish I had read this when I was younger; I would have appreciated it more. It is a sweet story, very much similar to Little Women, in my opinion. Margaret reminded me of Meg and Jo many times, and of course, her mother was almost identical to Mrs. March. Free on gutenberg.com
