Born in London in 1942, Howard immigrated with his family to Australia in 1948. His father was a cabinet maker who lost all his possessions in the great depression and then, like millions of others, suffered the atrocities of the Second World War. He was penniless when he immigrated but like many of his generation gained middleclass status through hard work and self sacrifice. The lessons learned, growing up in an atmosphere of self sacrifice and hard work for reward, had a great affect on Howard. Although now recently retired from the traditional workforce, he never missed an opportunity to better his lifestyle be it in employment or enjoyment. Howard has always been a people person, and has experienced a full and often exciting life working in a wide variety of situations including that of a soldier, a successful self employed businessman, an entertainer, a public speaker, qualified educator and Christmas 2009, retired from a his senior executive position of Chief Executive Officer. Howard spent much of his later years working with Government bureaucracy, Government Ministers, backbenchers, Members of the Opposition and cross benches. This experience enabled Howard to gain invaluable firsthand knowledge of what truly drives Government and the Public Service. He has worked mainly in Australia but has also spent considerable time in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe. He also worked as an entertainer on Cruise liners in the Mediterranean region, South Pacific region, sailing both the Suez and Panama Canal routes. Howard enjoys writing training material and for many years wrote incisive editorials for an Industry Association bi monthly journal. His straight from the shoulder editorials covered a wide range of topics including current affairs, the importance of customer service, innovation, motivation and the absolute need to accept change. Howard has now begun a series of crime novels featuring the hard hitting, no nonsense Detective Chief Inspector Bill Harrigan in London's Stonegate Police Station. In his novels, Howard brings to life, a police detective charged more with the pursuit of justice than the adherence to the strict letter of the law.
