I read book #43, so I figured I should read the first. So glad I did! Eve Dallas is a badass character! I knew that this book would be a thrill but had no idea how much I would like it. The author has a great way of telling the story. It flows easily, reads easily, and though you think you have it ...

But even as she started to smile, her fingers brushed something between cold flesh and bloody sheets. "There's something under her." Carefully, Eve lifted the shoulder, eased her fingers over. "Paper," she murmured. "Sealed." With her protected thumb, she wiped at a smear of blood until she could re...

I read this when was it first released in 1995 and decided to give it a reread on audio hoping it would hold up so many, many years later. 23 years later, actually! How did that happen? This book is older than my kids. Older, probably, than a few of my friends here too! Obviously, I remembered nothi...

(4.5)Not much I can add to the multitude of reviews for the premier book of this now-beloved and classic series. I will say, however, that it did live up to the hype and I'm not a huge romantic suspense fan.

Pity for the insta-lust, the main character is interesting and the topic of weapons regulation dismally contemporary. Nice to see an author's vision of advanced technology conceived in the '90s (books on discs! Can you imagine?).Page-turner even if the ending didn't come as a surprise.

3.5/5 starsDidn't really live up to my expectations. I think the writing style isn't a 100% my thing. Not a bad book, interesting plot. Wasn't really feeling their connection. I will probably try the next book, but maybe not right away.

Originally read in 1995, re-read 2016The year is 2058. Prostitution is legal and licensed, guns are considered antiques akin to the crossbow, real coffee and meat are hideously expensive, and Eve Dallas is one of New York's finest. She is called to the scene of a crime where a Licensed Companion is f...
