Dr. Nancy Van Leuven is an online learning specialist and co-founder of Global Spark, an NGO with projects about equity, education, and the environment. She has over three decades of academic and practitioner experience in marketing, community development, and workplace writing. Nancy has worked for nonprofits, governmental agencies, and global corporate clients, ranging from the International Red Cross to Taco Bell. In addition, her teaching experience includes Bridgewater State University, Presidio Graduate School, and the University of Washington. Her most recent research explores issues in global communication and sustainability, especially the relationships between how women and indigenous populations are turning to activist public relations. She has recently published articles/chapters and books on health care for rural populations and why global initiatives, such as the Millennium Development Goals, are facing obstacles with Western audiences and other stakeholders. As a GO-MAP scholar at the University of Washington, Dr. Van Leuven continues a research agenda about familial Cherokee and Choctaw lineages, as well as tribal casinos, colleges, and food sovereignty.
