This installment of Heathen concerns in part the fall out from #7. Aydis' quest is helped by a mermaid who tells some hard facts. That part was lovely. We also get more information about what Odin has planned. As always, the plot hinges on questions of right and wrong as oppose to who has the stronge...
At first the art didn't grab me and the story was a little boring, but then it became a really nice surprise - the art cohered more after 10 pages or so, and it became an adventure story with humor about norse gods and one slightly earnest and tough woman.

I hadn't heard of this series until Heathen Vol. 1 was up on Netgalley. I read it and loved it. I loved it so much that I ordered this and pre-ordered the coming issues. This issue opens the world a bit more. There is a really interesting ship of women and Alterici's take on mermaids and inversion o...
Disclaimer: ARC via Netgalley There are two mythological cycles that I have a fondness for – the Story of Troy and the Volsung saga. In fact, I prefer Norse myths to Greek. I’m not entirely sure why, but I always have. Heathen is a comic book that draws upon anc...

To me this first volume feels like a set-up for the rest of this series, for which I am very excited. And I love our main character who is a Viking and a lesbian an...

What can I say that I haven't already said? Or, more than that, what can I say that all of the people that I've now converted to Heathen fans haven't already said? This story is gorgeous, plain and simple. Natasha Alterici's art style is flowing, lyrical, and downright stunning. Everything about thi...

This is a wonderful story that continues to be wonderful, have a message, and never subverts the story for that messages. This part sticks with one character, who has been kidnapped by the goddess Freya, in order to save both Aydis herself, as well as Brynhild. Or so Freya says. Aydis finds ou...
