Neal Bierling is an immigrant to the United States from the Netherlands who grew up in Holland, Michigan. He began his Middle Eastern Archaeological digging adventures in 1972, and has through 2012, worked in twelve countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Besides supervising at excavations, he and his son, Joel, have done photography at 100s of archaeological sites and started a company, Phoenix Data Systems in 1995. Together, with his son, Neal has produced three videos, five CD-ROMs, and two Virtual Tours (Petra and Qumran, the Dead Sea Scrolls) relating to the Middle East and Archaeology. Their pictures have been used in more than one hundred scholarly works published by various publishing companies such as Zondervan and Eerdmans. Neal has written in part or the whole nine books relating to Middle Eastern Archaeology. The latest books are part of a series entitled Beyond Indiana Jones: Getting at the Facts (Artifacts) Buried in the Story (currently Volumes 1-3). Ten volumes are planned for this series. Indiana Jones is a fictional character based in part on Hiram Bingham's adventures in Peru. Neal too has been pursued by guys with guns in the Middle East and has had near death experiences there (not yet written), but now he has a tie to Hiram Bingham. A second series due to Neal's past and current work in Peru is entitled: Getting High in Peru, Archaeological Adventures, Volumes 1 and 2. Volume 3 is planned for early in 2015.
