Part 4 of the Heart of the Alpha series
Roxanne has made her choice.
She's finally made her choice and now takes solace in Julian's arms. But in the back of her mind, she keeps repeating Matthew's threat and knows he'll be back eventually. With the mating ceremony in just a few days time, she can only pray that Matthew won't act on the threat.
Julian knows the threat he faces.
With Matthew's threat still on the table, Julian knows that both Roxanne and his pack are in danger. He'll do whatever it takes if he wants to keep both of them safe--even if it means doing the one thing he swore a vow to never do.
An impossible choice will have to be made...
Roxanne knows the path that Julian is willing to take to keep her and his pack safe. She too, has a choice that can change the future for the better. But both choices will come at a great sacrifice... for both of them.
EXCERPT
Her suggestion, sometimes hinted, but more often incredibly direct, that he pass the gift to her and let her join him as full mate was—it horrified him, if he were to tell the truth. The switch of affiliation for the young wolves had gone better than he'd ever hoped it could, and they'd settled in nicely behind his rules and his methods of organization.... And Roxie had certainly had a hint of what it was like, always having the pack in your head, always feeling them close by, having their feelings influencing yours. He knew, without her having to say, that she felt the weight of them through him. And he told her that he was worried about having her drawn into that bond too soon, having it overwhelm her. He told her that he needed to know she loved him on her own, not because of the bond, or because of the pack.
What he did not tell her was that if he was mated to a wolf in the pack, there would be nothing left he could hide from her, not really. It's not that she would share his mind, but she would come as close as it was possible to do so. The dream he'd had the night before—he hadn't thought about those times in so long, in so very many years. He hadn't thought of who he'd been, or how he'd felt. It had been so much better that way.
She said she loved him, and he believed her. But who could love that man?
