Nicholas Hirshon is a teaching fellow at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. He was previously an adjunct professor of journalism at St. John's University and LaGuardia Community College, both in New York City, and reported from 2005 to 2011 for the New York Daily News. He has written two books: "Images of America: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum" (2010), the first volume on the premier sports and entertainment arena on Long Island, and "Images of America: Forest Hills" (2013), on the New York City neighborhood where the U.S. Open tennis tournament was long held.At the Daily News, Hirshon's coverage of historic sites in the borough of Queens earned him a Friend from the Media Award from a prominent preservation group, the Historic Districts Council. He penned three well-received series for the Daily News on Queens' past, sparking efforts to landmark or post signage at notable sites.His work has also appeared in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Colorado Springs Gazette, Contra Costa (Calif.) Times, DNAinfo.com, Halifax Chronicle-Herald, Hockey News, Long Island Press, Montreal Gazette, Naples (Fla.) Daily News, New York Amsterdam News, San Luis Obispo (Calif.) Tribune, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Tampa Tribune, Queens (N.Y.) Courier, Queens (N.Y.) Ledger and Yahoo! Sports.An alumnus of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Hirshon spearheaded the revitalization of the St. John's University chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
