The editor sent all his invited authors a writing prompt consisting of an envelope, looking as if gone astray, containing some odd document or object. I have to say, on the whole, I preferred the stories that used this item less literally. The opening story, "The Green Letter", used the arrival of a...

This is a very mixed bag of stories, some are very interesting and draw you in while some felt, to me at least, as if they were trying too hard to be edgy and hip. These are all stories about Gender and Gender appearance and dealing with alternative ways of looking at and dealing with gender. It r...

This was an interesting reading. I don't know why but usually I am not a big fan of short stories but I am afraid delving into a mammoth book of 600 pages or multi-books series, even at the same time I want to read several series I've got here. But since the other way I slept in my mother's home and...

A slow starting story featuring a protagonist who is just odd enough to make things interesting. As the story builds it turns into a guilt filled psychological fever dream and then decides its time to get really weird. A fun read but less than perfect and muddled in parts. Still well worth your time...

Still started out in 2010 as an exhibition to mark Hornsey Town Hall’s 75th anniversary. During it’s time it has host...

The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror I've always liked short stories. They are a great way to fit in a good read when reading time is limited or you just want a tasty morsel you can finish quickly. The whole problem with them is balance. Considering I grabbed this by mistake, thinking it was a fantasy...

Saw this book in the bookstore by the train station this morning and it caught my eye. It looks and sounds interesting. I might pick it up on my way home from work!18:17-edit: and I just did! :)

I feel that the writing for most of these stories was very high quality, but I admit there were a few I didn't like at all, because of the content. However, this makes for a good horror collection. You will get your money's worth, most likely. Favorite stories by Cody Goodfellow, Joe R. Lansdale,...

The unifying concept of this collection is that each story is supposed to be inspired by something written by Poe, a specific story or poem instead of his style in general. I do feel a little bad about only giving this book two stars. There are 19 stories collected here, but only three that I enjoye...
