I am a professor of literature at University of California, San Diego. My research and teaching interests include nineteenth-century literary and visual culture, especially cultural productions by women. I'm interested in women who were journalists, editors, activists, scholars, and photographers. I've taught survey courses in early American and nineteenth-century American literature and more specialized courses in maritime literature, literature and photography, captivity narratives, literatures of the American West, and the gothic.
