I remember reading this collection when I was a teenager. So happy to re-read again and refresh my memory. We get classic King here. I read this for the "American Horror Story" square due to all of these stories taking place in America. One started in space, but ended in Florida, so that one still c...
THE BOOGEYMAN SHORT STORY REVIEW - A beleaguered father, plagued by guilt, visits a psychiatrist. As he lays on the couch, he recounts the murders of his three children. The Boogeyman was originally published in the March 1973 issue of Cavalier, and later collected in Stephen King's 1978 short story...
Night Shift is the first short story collection from Stephen King and it is quite simply the finest group of short stories that I've ever read. While not all of them are 5 star reads, as a whole the entire compilation is amazing. This is King at his utmost finest. Here is my breakdown of each story ...
First read this collection when I was... twenty, I think. Not sure. Does it matter? Probably not. Three things to mention before hitting you with my one sentence reviews: I forgot how much of King's early work tied into these stories, and how much I enjoyed his non-horror outings. Truth be told, I p...
I don't quite know how to rate this collection. It's pretty uneven, and spans several genres. I loved "I am the Doorway". "The Mangler", "Battleground" "Trucks" and "Grey Matter" were so campy, but I liked the last two. "The Ledge" was a good thrill. "Quitters Inc." was simply awesome, and so was ...
„Z pewnością znajdziemy tu biuro konstabla – oświadczył Burt, zastanawiając się, dlaczego widok tego bardziej przypominającego wiochę miasteczka dławi mu gardło strachem.” Wiara może mieć różne oblicza, kiedy jednak dana grupa zaczyna przejawiać coraz bardziej destrukcyjne zachowania i odchodzi od...
I've always been meaning to read Night Shift in its entirety. I read the story "Graveyard Shift" when I was younger, and it gave me nightmares. That story has always stuck with me. I figured it was time to finally visit the collection as a whole, especially since I've been on a short story kick late...
I've often told people that Stephen King impresses me as a writer not so much for his novels as his less known novellas and short stories. Night Shift, published in 1978, is his first anthology of shorts, comprising 20 works published from 1970 to 1977. Nine of them were adapted into feature or tele...
Read this in a swedish translation called 'Majsens barn' and I have to say it didn't even sound like King. It didn't have his 'voice' at all. I blame the translation + the fact that these seem to be rather early stories.
After some consideration I made my mind. Most of these stories are very good. Fortunally. But a couple of them are bad (in my opinion of course). My favourite was undboutbly Graveyard Shift with The Boogeyman; Quitters, Inc. and The Ledge close behind. Before hand I must say I see a lot of other newer ...
