Still, Grendels weren’t above using humans, and most humans weren’t above being used. The monsters were there for anyone who just opened his eyes and looked. But ignorance is bliss and there were billions of blissful people in this world. Maybe stupidity was a demon all its own. Funny thing ab...

It's nice when I manage to read a book that's been on my "to read" list for a while. Too often books placed on the list just seem to languish there, forgotten, until I happen to come across them on the library shelves, which is the case with Rob Thurman's Nightlife. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for ...

where have I seen that before? Nightlife (Cal Leandros, #1) by Rob Thurman Recommended for: Fans of Supernatural Nightlife wasn't what I expected. Given the blurb and cover (a mopey, darkhaired guy, dimly lit city), I thought I was in for a hardboiled detection/urban fantasy romp with the stan...

Different take on urban/paranormal fantasy. Likeable characters, cool monsters, and a plot to destroy the world. What more do you need?

I've had so much on my plate lately that my attention was divided while reading this so this may not be a fair review. I've had this book on my shelves for a long time and overall it was a good intro to a series. It was a very slow start and the writing/story felt choppy. The world created was inter...

Not quite willing to give this four stars but it was knocking on the door. Cal is a great narrator for a novel in first person - his voice is completely unreliable for the entire length of the book. His life is so skewed you can't believe a thing that comes out of his head. Having to interpret Cal's...

The first in what looks like a promising urban fantasy series. It takes most of the book to set up the back story, but the characters seem interesting enough. I liked the relationship between the half-brothers, Cal and Niko. I'm less enthusiastic about the overly flip, 1st person narrative.
