Blurb promised great things - sounded like a fresh and interesting take. The execution though? Hated the heroine, she irked me and was TSTL, making bad choices and failing to follow through.Disliked the approach, story, lead. Pretty much everything in fact.
While Alexander's Edie Spence series is still going strong it will be going on without me. I have become one of those people who can now walk away from an ongoing series if it jumps the shark or loses steam or my interest shifts. I've liked and still do like Edie but Deadshifted didn't work for me...
Edie Spence is a bit of a loner, she just recently landed a new job at the worst hospital in the city, County. Even worse she is on a secret floor called Y4 where they take care of society’s paranormal citizens (i.e. shifters, zombies, vampires, etc). She is adjusting to life fairly well when she ma...
10%: "He turned toward me and stared at me for half a second. This was my last chance to change my mind, to make him leave, I knew it. But I never back down. If I ever gave fear a fighting chance, my life would be all but over. I smiled defiantly and he caught my head between his hands and pulled ...
I love the writing, there are so many cogent passages and turns of phrase that my copy of Nightshifted is decorated with post-it flags, and the well constructed plot kept the book in my hand, but it’s the main character, vibrant, ironic, well meaning Edie Spence, that totally won me over for this s...
I’d heard good things about this urban fantasy, and it was definitely fun. On the other hand, I didn’t find very much to relate to in the main character. I think partly, I’m just not an urban fantasy person. Or maybe I haven’t been reading the right ones? I don’t know.
3.5 StarsReview originally posted on Romancing the Dark Side:A fantastic new addition to urban fantasy with an imperfect but exceptional heroine. Edie's job will make your work day feel like a breeze! When Edie Spence became a nurse she never imagined working at County Hospital's Y4, a special secret...
2.8Had potential but didn't blossom as well as it could've.This book was a hot mess. It was all over the place with a barely likeable heroine, with an underdeveloped backstory, and a plot that was not as clear as it should've been.Grammatically: Tenses were changed, fragment sentences didn't make se...
Edie Spence is a nurse with a problem. Her brother Jake is one step away from an overdose. So when a mysterious being asks her if she’d be willing to work for them in exchange for her brother’s safety (?) she readily agrees and starts to work at Y4.It’s just like any nursing job, only that the patie...
Why did it take me so long to pick up this book? From chapter 1, I was kicking myself for not reading NIGHTSHIFTED the day it came out. I love when characters have an actual profession, and Edie's nursing shifts, despite the shifters and dragons and zombies, are realistic and fascinating to follow....
