I found this one to be a very interesting read, but not very practical for those who live in the real world, with real budgets. The Not So Big House by Sarah Susanka is an excellent coffeetable book. Enticing images and the promise of happiness are the selling points for a practical book on home design. The concept of an "away" room particularly appealed. It's a small space, a retreat.

Beautiful designs, but really this should be called Honestly? The Not Even Close to Small House That Will Cost You a Pile.Not quite what I had I was expecting, but I'll keep it in mind if I win the lottery.

I really enjoy Susanka's books. It's weird to me how poorly many homes seem to suit the people who live in them, and anyone who addresses this topic is fighting on the side of the angels. I know McMansions aren't going to disappear, but I hope this helps some people at least create homes that really...
