Lovely, lyrical language, as usual for McKillip. I listened to this as an audio book, however, and I found the reader's voice so soothing that it made me sleepy. I definitely want to read a paper copy of this book sometime, though, because I loved the characters and the gentle, slow pace.
Oh, Od Magic. You are so fluffy and earnest and full of wizards and magic and princesses and labyrinths. These things are familiar and pretty and can be interesting, I guess, if you're in the mood for them. I was not.Maybe if I were sixteen I would have loved this, but it was a little too heavy-hand...
Didn’t wow me quite as much as the other McKillip books I’ve read recently–parts of it seemed a little clunky and overly pointed–but still in my favorite category of her books. I did definitely like several of the characters. And it has a gorgeous cover! [Sept. 2010]
I felt I could've given this a five star review if 1- the story didn't just abruptly end 2- if the plot had started before page 100 and something and 3- if we had more of Mistral and Arneth.
