~~Moved from GR~~ On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers Recommended for: People who liked the Pirates of the Caribbean movies or The Pirates' Own Book The entire time I was reading On Stranger Tides, the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean was stuck in my head. And with good reason. This is basica...
I'm a huge fan of Powers, and this one did not disappoint my high expectations. Probably the most "fun" book of his that I've read, and more upbeat than many. Pirates, voodoo, the Fountain of Youth, and great characters as always. What's not to like?
I had high hopes for this book since I absolutely loved the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (though I haven't seen the one based on this book). I just loved the slap-stick humor, the ridiculousness of the plots and the zany characters. Unfortunately this book didn't entail any of that kookiness. Ma...
I had to see if I was third time lucky and considering the newest Pirates of the Caribbean is based on this book I figured it would be worth a read for that alone. This is wholly appropriate. Aft...
Enjoyable pirate adventure novel hampered by sloppy plot structuring. Basically tries to be everything without grounding the story to a central idea. But if you like the silliness of Pirates of The Caribbean, you'll probably love this.
I liked this book better than The Anubis Gates, probably just because it has to do with pirates. It is extremely slow moving, though.
