I'm a huge fan of Powers, and this one did not disappoint my high expectations. Probably the most "fun" book of his that I've read, and more upbeat than many. Pirates, voodoo, the Fountain of Youth, and great characters as always. What's not to like?

I had high hopes for this book since I absolutely loved the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (though I haven't seen the one based on this book). I just loved the slap-stick humor, the ridiculousness of the plots and the zany characters. Unfortunately this book didn't entail any of that kookiness. Ma...

If you are as nerdy about movies as you clearly are about books if you are visiting this here book website, you probably recognize "On Stranger Tides" as the name of the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Belabored Franchise Subtitle series. This is wholly appropriate. Aft...

Enjoyable pirate adventure novel hampered by sloppy plot structuring. Basically tries to be everything without grounding the story to a central idea. But if you like the silliness of Pirates of The Caribbean, you'll probably love this.

I liked this book better than The Anubis Gates, probably just because it has to do with pirates. It is extremely slow moving, though.
