Another story sparkling with wit and humor from New York Times bestselling author Mercedes Lackey. Traditionally, marauding dragons are soothed only by a virgin sacrifice. And so practical-minded Princess Andromeda -- with the encouragement of her mother's court -- reluctantly volunteers to do her duty, asking only for a sword to defend herself. Well, her offer is accepted, but the weapon isn't forthcoming, and so Andromeda faces the dragon alone. Until a Champion arrives to save her -- sort of. Sir George doesn't quite defeat the dragon, but as Andromeda finishes rescuing herself she discovers that beneath the Good Knight's well-meaning though inexperienced heroics lies a further tale . . . Still, Andromeda can't leave her seacoast country in further jeopardy from the dragon's return, and so she and . . . er . . . George join to search for the dragon's lair. But even -- especially -- in the Five Hundred Kingdoms bucking with Tradition isn't easy. It takes the strongest of wills, more than a hint of stubbornness, quick thinking and a refusal to give up, no matter what happens along the way. Somehow, though, none of this was taught in princess school . . .

Oh, there's a mega mind-fuck twist a quarter of the way through when you think a relationship is starting to develop very awkwardly. Nope. You're wrong. And again, the story took foreeever. I really enjoy the mythos, though...

This retelling of a Greek Legend in Mercedes Lackey's Five Hundred Kingdom world is an interesting view of the story. Previous characters really only appear as background characters. Princess Andromeda of Acadia is offered as sacrafice to the Dragon when her lot comes up. She's rescued with the h...

I somewhat enjoyed this book, but it definitely isn't the best of the series. While Lackey provides shocking plot turns, the ratio of plot to character development was seriously unbalanced. (Additionally, although she would provide pages on the main character, I never felt like I truly understood he...

Not as immediately engaging or even as fun as the first book, but still good enough to maintain my interest in this series.

5.0 One Good Knight [Mercedes Lackey]
I thought I was going to like this one less than the first book. The start of it seemed more focused on setting up the story, when I thought it would jump right into the plot. I think I like this one better, overall. I don't mind romance, but the romance in this one was understated and more implied ...
