I would give this book 3 1/2 stars. It is a stream of consciousness treatise on the federal prison system in the US. It is a fascinating reading experience which portrays very pointedly that our prison system as a whole is expensive and very ineffectual, locking many people up for all the wrong rea...

I liked this book so much more than I expected I would! I've watched the Netflix series, in which Piper is an unbearable brat. But the Piper who eloquently relates her memoir doesn't afford herself any coddling, is straightforward in accepting her responsibility, and uses her story to reflect on her...

I think a lot more of effort could have been put into the writing of this book. It was technically correct but the way an essay you make for school, full of data and focusing on the wrong things... For me it became dull and loooong. I wish I knew more about other people mentioned here. Didn't really...

I listened to the audiobook after having watched the first season of the show on DVD. (I don't have cable, so I binge-watch DVDs from the library and am always at least one season behind everyone else. No spoilers, please!) Having enjoyed season one of the show, I thoroughly enjoyed the memoir t...

I thought this was pretty interesting and educational as to what the system is really like. I'm interesting in watching the show now.

My first ever audiobook! That I have finished, anyway. I have tried audiobooks many times over the years. The first one I tried was The Awakening on cassette tapes—yes, I have been trying this out for decades. This one, though, stuck. Even if it did take me 2 months to get through. That's 2 renewa...

I liked this book a lot. Piper is totally aware of her privilege though out her telling of this story and it was refreshing to hear her talk about the other prisoners like people and draw parallels to other things. My one issue have is that I wanted more. The book only details Piper's time in the p...

I was not wearing a happy face while reading this. You know why? Because I did not want to read this book! But, one of the ladies in book club picked it. (Let me just say right here, that I am the youngest person in this book club at 42, and I don't mean by a couple years. I'm like 20 to 30 years yo...

Honestly not what I was expecting at all. It was funny, sad, and horrifying all at the same time. I realize (as MANY other reviews point out) that Piper's story is a rare one. Very few people out through the American Prison System have the love and support of so many people. I wasn't blown away by t...
