Pam McAllister is a feminist author, activist, poet, storyteller, and professional musician. She edited the celebrated anthology Reweaving the Web of Life: Feminism and Nonviolence (1982) and wrote two books documenting ways women around the world have used creative nonviolence for social justice causes, You Can't Kill the Spirit and This River of Courage. Grace Paley once wrote, "I'm interested in anything Pam does ... Her work on women's lives and nonviolence is direct, true, close to my heart, actually -- essential."In addition to writing and lecturing about feminism and nonviolence, McAllister has authored books, essays, and articles about the death penalty, Mark Twain, Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, and Sherlock Holmes. She wrote a book of liberation theology-based devotions for people in prison and a column about hymn texts and composers for The Progressive Christian magazine (2007-2011).Having long ago made the happy transition from rural to urban, she lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
