The Edge of Impropriety is the second book I've read by Pam Rosenthal though it was the fourth romance Ms. Rosenthal wrote. (Has she written any others since The Edge of Impropriety, I wonder?) I knew it was going to be an interesting reading experience to compare her debut novel, Almost A Gentleman...

Almost A Gentleman by Pam Rosenthal had elements that should have had me glued to the pages - cross-dressing tortured heroine, a hero who is a charming mix of gentleman in society but a "satyr" in bed, a brief appearance of William Blake, a mystery to ponder, a relationship that delivers steam and h...

I read this in so many fits and starts, I honestly don't know what I think of it. I'm going with a high grade because it had a lot of interesting and original elements, and took class issues far more seriously than most historical romance does. If you enjoy "Upstairs, Downstairs" situations, this is...

The writing style kind of threw me off. Because there was not much dialogue it was too dense and many of the actions were told rather than shown..so it was hard to get into the flow of things and the story. Perhaps I shall try again, but at the moment too many on my TBR list.

I'm a sucker for the gender bender trope in Regencies but the improbability of this particular scenario was a bit hard to ignore. I like the backstory that led to her motivation for masquerading as a man. It was just asking a bit much that she faked her death and managed to get away with inserting...

It seemed like this story held a lot of promise, and the writing is skilful, but I decided fairly quickly into the book that the plot is completely implausible. I never really understood why Phoebe decided to re-enter society as a man after her tragic experience with the deaths of her children - thi...

This book didn't thrill me as did "The Edge of Impropriety". It was a good, solid book. I liked Mary and Kit very much, and I was glad to see their growth from their first year of marriage to nine years later. The author did a very good job of allowing them to find one another again - to find more t...

This book surprised me... it's so much better than it seems, even from the back cover description. It took me a bit to get into it, and then I was totally hooked!Marina and Jasper are... magnificent! I really think of them now as one of my all-time favorite couples. Their rendezvous are priceless an...

This probably deserves 3-stars, but there is a large section in the middle that I absolutely could not stand. The relationship between the two main characters was lame, and seemed based on sex only. The whole middle of the book was flooded with NOTHING but sex scenes. And really crappy ones, at that...

Excellent writing, however premise and execution are flawed.A woman masquerading as a boy/man is, admittedly, not one of my favorite themes in any genre. However, I have read an quite enjoyed a few -- Ashes in the Wind, These Old Shades are just two off the top of my head. The thing about those two...
