So I finally finished this book. The setting is great, and I like many of the characters. It's just. Micah, the protagonist, is intersex, genderfluid and bi. Now, I actually like the way Micah is portrayed as bi. But the other two?I didn't really notice the genderfluid part, because there was little...
I have been stoked as hell to read Pantomime for a while now, but had to wait for the new ebook edition before I could purchase it. Circus setting? Check. Nonbinary protagonist? Check. Non-heteronormative protagonist? Check. Intersex protagonist? Check! I can't say I've ever read a confirmed inter...
Not much time today so quick and fast Gene/Micha character is a character I haven't yet had the chance to read about in other books and I enjoyed it. The character makes you think about how we treat gender roles. The mystery of the character doesn't take long to figure out and you're given the an...
I think I picked this book up merely because the plot takes place in a circus. And because the cover was appealing. A YA, fantasy, in a circus? Yeahhh. It begins with a teenage boy making his way into the circus. He is a runaway and has the ability with the trapeze. His name is Micah Grey. Secon...
This is one of those novels that paints a picture of the surroundings so well that you can easily imagine you are there. The difficulty lies with the story or the lack thereof. Not a whole lot actually happens, and too much time is spent on the backstory which isn't central to the plot. Don't look f...
Oh, this book. I'm not sure what I think. I'm having a hard time figuring out if 3 stars is even what I want to rate it. I could go to 4 easily, and could just as easily go to 2. I don't like being this puzzled about the basic feelings a book incites in me, especially when that confusion doesn't com...
I'm not entirely sure why I'm now pretending I write reviews because I don't write reviews; I prefer to just complain at length about the bits which disappointed me. However, me giving out about Pantomime would be like taking Jonathan Franzen to to task for the epic lack of velociraptors in Freedom....
4.5 stars. Thank goodness there is a sequel coming! I would have been terribly disappointed if it hadn't been the case. I loved the protagonist. The world building was wonderful. An original and unusual story.I do agree that the blurb is misleading. I suspect the decision was made in order to make i...
3.5Good, but could have been better. Clearly a debut, but the author shows a lot of talent and promise. A little more time editing or clarifying some events/ideas would help, but this was still a unique and interesting read. I quite liked it, but there's room for improvement.
