I live in Spencerport, NY with my husband. We are animal lovers. Recently, a family of feral cats took up residence in our backyard, to the dismay of our two cats, Sir Lancelot and Bathsheba. I was surprised to learn the Humane Society has a feral cat program. For $50. they'll spay or neuter feral cats to help with overpopulation and continual destruction of all those beautiful creatures. Then you return them to the wild to live without reproducing unwanted cats. Mom (Blacky) healed well. She and the father (Tom) tend to their three children well. When the babies are big enough, we'll take care of them, too. The only problem (or joy, depending on your viewpoint), is that a few of them, especially Mom, wants to move in. Although Blacky seems to have overcome her depression, I wrote this poem the day after her surgery.Too Many Cats7/28/11Trust?It depends whose sideyou happen upon.Responsible? Some say yes,but what does she say?Is one litter enough?Perhaps none at all?She seems depressed.Did she lose more than her female parts? Was she pregnant again? What is there to dowith the plightof too many cats?
